A visualization study of 120 years of Olympic medals, focused on graphic communication rather than modeling.

Context

A project for the storytelling course, on the public dataset of 120 years of Olympic history. The exercise was not to predict anything — it was to make the data speak for itself in a chart.

Technical decisions

A main chart comparing total gold medals among the leading powers, plus individual charts per country showing participation over time. Typography and palette controlled by hand (Barlow typeface, a distinct colour per country) instead of Matplotlib's default style — the aesthetic choice is part of the argument, not decoration.

Result

A set of visualisations that supports the comparative reading without needing an explanatory caption.

Learnings

Modelling and communication are separate skills. A high R² that nobody can read moves no decision.
